Continuing the trend from Feb 2021, the job market is still on the uptrend as it were up 23% from their level on February 1 last year, after adjusting for seasonal trends.
The uptrend started around Oct 2020 and surged from Jan 2021 until Mar 2021.
Recovery is definitely underway.
With more jobs being created through Singapore government initiatives, the stable Covid19 situation and the sense of optimism from businesses based on more jobs posted, I think the situation is going to hold.
Food and Manufacturing are bouncing back
Two of the most affected occupations due to Covid19 is in the Best Performing occupation group based on the number of jobs postings.
Production and Manufacturing already did well in Feb with a 62% growth over last month’s report. They are up 71% in March 2021.
And new entrant Food Preparation snuck into the leaderboard with a 47% growth.
Even at the opposite end, every occupation category is in positive growth with the exception of Architecture and Medical information.
Contrast that to Feb 2021 when 6 categories are negative and 1 remains unchanged.
Hospitality and Tourism are improving too
Job postings in the hospitality and tourism occupation groups went up by 42%, compared to the month before.
This is despite the fact that 2.2m Singaporeans have not used their SingapoRediscovers Vouchers.
Singapore is also due to get 4 new attractions including the Museum of Ice Cream and Sentosa rotating gondola.
Given that the vouchers will expire in June and how Singaporeans love to try out new things, the last-minute rush to exhaust the vouchers and official openings should create a pent-up demand that will continue to propel the occupation group forward.
